A meeting took place on March 10th 1924 where singers and interested persons attended. The outcome was that Harrogate Operatic Players was formed. It was decided to present Trial By Jury and the first rehearsal took place on April 15th 1924. There were three performances of Trial By Jury from May 14th to May 16th 1924 in the old Winter Gardens. The first full musical presented was The Rebel Maid and the opening night was February 2nd 1925 at Harrogate Theatre. Since then the Society has produced musicals annually up to the present day, breaking temporarily during the war years. After the war, productions moved to the Royal Hall but moved back to the Harrogate Theatre in December 2002 following the closure of the Royal Hall. All shows are professionally produced and in recent years a second production has been added which is now presented in the Sun Pavilion in the Valley Gardens, Harrogate. In May 2008 Harrogate Operatic Players returned to the Royal to celebrate it's re-opening following a multi-million pound refurbishment with A Century of Song. We have over 50 playing members of various ages and always welcome new members. We also have over 100 Friends who are supporters of the Society. We rehearse on Tuesdays evenings at West Park United Reformed Church Hall, Raglan Street, Harrogate. Nearer to a performance, a more concentrated rehearsal schedule is arranged. |
